Volunteer Opportunity

Business Assistant

Suggestive Hours per week: 8-10 hours per week. 

Location: YESS Office, 23 Carter Street, Uttoxeter 

Number of Roles: 1-2 

Role Purpose: 

To assist with the manning of the YESS phone, hello@ email address, welcoming guests, assisting with events, making and serving refreshments, and general office tasks.  

Main Duties 

This role may vary depending on needs and is likely to include:   

  • Answer the YESS phone line and direct calls appropriately, or take messages 
  • Monitor the email inbox 
  • Welcome visitors to the building 
  • Assist with refreshments and events 
  • General administrative duties and office-based tasks 
  • Data collection and research for other members of the team 
  • Raise any concerns to the appropriate member of staff 
  • Carry out duties within the aims and objectives of organisation 
  • Adhere to the Policies & Procedures outlined during Induction, training, and one to ones 

Specification

Volunteer Opportunity

Fundraiser

Suggestive Hours per week: 2-10 (as and when required)  

Reporting to: Development Officer  

Location: YESS Office, or at community events 

Number of Roles: 2-10 

Role Purpose: 

To support the Development Officer and wider team with various fundraising tasks. 

Main Duties 

This role may vary depending on needs and is likely to include:   

  • Maximising funds raised as part of a team or fundraising group 
  • Assisting at fundraising events throughout the year 
  • Contacting our fundraising supporters, keeping them up-to-date with what’s going on and helping them feel part of our work 
  • Developing links with other organisations and participating in fundraising opportunities 
  • Assisting with compliance issues 
  • Assisting in completing and signing finance declarations, where relevant 
  • Coordinating and supporting other volunteers involved in fundraising 
  • Raise any concerns to the appropriate member of staff relating to risks to health & safety, privacy and confidentiality, safeguarding and protection of vulnerable people and/or security 
  • Carry out duties within aims and objectives of organisation and adhere to the Policies & Procedures outlined during Induction, training and one to ones 
  • Attend Induction and further training as appropriate to the Role Description and agreed with Line Manager at the organisation’s cost.

Charity Trustee

Suggestive Hours per week: 2-10 (as and when required)  

Reporting to: Chairman of the Board of Trustees  

Location: YESS, & community events (online attendance option for trustee meetings)  

 

Role Purpose: 

Trustees share formal and ultimate responsibility for YESS, ensuring it is solvent, well-run, and delivering the outcomes for which it operates. 

Main Duties 

This role may vary depending on needs and is likely to include:   

  • Ensure the charity is carrying out its purposes for the public benefit 
  • Develop the strategic direction of the charity 
  • Comply with the charity’s governing document and the law 
  • Act in the charity’s best interests 
  • Manage the charity’s resources responsibly 
  • Act with reasonable care and make use of your skillset to the benefit of the charity 
  • Ensure compliance with statutory accounting and reporting requirements 
  • Act as a critical friend – be encouraging and supportive but do not be afraid to think independently and challenge others when necessary 
  • Utilise your skillset to the benefit of the charity 
  • Liaise with staff and other trustees in achieving these objectives

Role Purpose: 

To maintain a clean facility by completing a variety of cleaning tasks.  

Main Duties 

This role may vary depending on needs and is likely to include:   

  • Clean the interior of the building including floors, carpet, rugs, windows and walls 
  • Disinfect commonly used items such as desks, door handles, office tools and phones 
  • Empty trash and recycling bins 
  • Perform minor repairs on equipment and tools 
  • Clean and maintain bathrooms & kitchen 
  • Wash and clean windows and mirrors 
  • Dust furniture and fixings 
  • Maintain cleaning inventory, placing orders for new products when needed 
  • Raise any concerns to the appropriate member of staff 
  • Carry out duties within aims and objectives of organisation 
  • Adhere to the Policies & Procedures outlined during Induction, training and one to ones 

Specification

Community Gardener

Reporting to: Charity Lead  

Location: YESS Office, 23 Carter Street, Uttoxeter 

Number of Roles: 1+ 

Role Purpose: 

To assist with the maintenance of YESS’ allotment plot and a garden space at a nearby building which YESS assist to maintain.   

Main Duties 

This role may vary depending on needs and is likely to include:   

  • Cultivate the gardens to ensure they are productive, sustainable, inclusive, educational and beautiful 
  • Assist when volunteers visit to cultivate the gardens, supporting them to develop their wellbeing and horticultural skills 
  • Assist when workshops or other gardens-related activities for service users are taking place 
  • Keep appropriate records of produce, planting etc. 
  • Assist the team to ensure the gardens remain safe, secure and environmentally friendly 
  • Support YESS gardening events and activities when required 
  • Raise any concerns to the appropriate member of staff 
  • Carry out duties within aims and objectives of organisation 
  • Adhere to the Policies & Procedures outlined during Induction, training and one to ones 

Specification  

  • Good communication and organisation skills 
  • A friendly approachable demeaner, assisting YESS staff and service users when accessing gardening activities

Volunteer Opportunity

Support Worker

Suggestive Hours per week: 4-15 (between 1 and 2 days between Mon-Fri)  

Reporting to: Clinical Manager 

Location: YESS Office, or community venues across Uttoxeter and surrounds.  

Number of Roles: 2-4 

Role Purpose: 

To support the community in providing useful, relevant and up to date information to support their emotional wellbeing and mental health, in person, by phone, and by use of social media. 

Main Duties 

  • Attend community projects, being the main point of contact between YESS and local people with mental health problems.   
  • Supporting with group work as directed by the facilitator, which may include handling registers, collating feedback forms or preparing participation work.  
  • Leading on aspects of group work as agreed with the facilitator 
  • Handle incoming phone calls to our helpline, signposting to relevant services and organisations, or referring and promoting into our internal services and projects.  
  • Answering the door and taking clients to the waiting areas, ensuring they have access to important information, which will include stocking the leaflet rack and arranging displays in coordination with staff.  
  • Communicating with the team to build a schedule of social media marketing and posting on our feeds as required.  
  • Communicating with online enquires in the appropriate manner.  
  • Supporting business development with creative ideas, data-input and research as required.  
  • Sign in and out of venue as required by our Fire Risk Assessment and Health & Safety Policies.  
  • Raise any concerns to the appropriate member of staff relating to risks to health & safety, privacy and confidentiality, safeguarding and protection of vulnerable people and/or security.  
  • Carry out duties within aims and objectives of organisation and adhere to the Policies & Procedures outlined during Induction, training and one to ones.  
  • Attend Induction and further training as appropriate to the Role Description and agreed with Line Manager at the organisation’s cost.

  • Would suit a person who has had previous experience of mental illness.  
  • Must be self-motivated and reliable.  
  • Must be person-centred and approachable, with a good level of communication skills including the ability to problem solve and talk to people with mental health needs.  
  • Must be able to use the phone and have a good understanding of IT and social media.
