Frequently asked questions

There are a few different ways you can refer into our service. You can either refer yourself, or a referral can be made through your GP or school. For more information, please so our ‘Referral Process’ page, where you can also download a copy of our referral form.

Unfortunately, we cannot give a specific time frame.  However, on average our wait time is approximately 8- 10 weeks. This is due to our service being in high demand at the moment. We will always do our best to reduce wait time where possible.

Please note: Average wait times may vary, and can exceed the number stated above.

If you feel you need urgent support, please see our crisis page for more details.

The initial assessment is an opportunity for one of our wonderful therapists to gain more information about your current situation.

This will allow tailor the support we can offer to you. This makes sure we can allocate you to the most appropriate therapist.

We will also ask in this initial assessment what preferences you may have in regards to the gender of your therapist and how you would like the sessions to be facilitated. eg. online, face-to-face or telephone.

YESS are a confidential service, which means that what you share with your therapist in your counselling sessions will stay between the two of you and stay within our organisation.

Details of what is discussed in your sessions will not be disclosed to anyone outside of the service, including your family, friends, school, workplace etc.

There are, however, certain circumstances where there are exceptions to confidentiality. This may include, for example, if your therapist believes that you or someone else ais at risk of harm. In this circumstance, your therapist may need to get in contact with your GP, a Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) at your school, a parent/guardian etc. as we have a duty of care to ensure you are safe.

This is something that your therapist will discuss with you in greater detail during your initial assessment and/or your first session.
Counselling sessions usually last up to 50 minutes each, and you will arrange with your therapist a day and time for your sessions each week.

You will meet one-to-one with your therapist for six sessions initially, however, sometimes we may be able to offer you further sessions. Please note that this depends on funding streams etc.
